Re: Looking for captive bred DeKay’s brown snakes!

David, what varieties of worms can the little ones eat? Would something like black soldier fly larvae work?

No insect larvae. I just find small common earthworms and/or grey worms that I dig up. You can gauge the size of the worm seeing the size of the snake. Something like 2 inches long and not too fat is what I give them currently.

Do you still have any captive bred dekay's brown snakes that you're willing to give away? I've been looking for one and I'd be thrilled if I could get one.

The 2019's are about twice that size and can eat the normal size worms you'd easily find in your backyard.
I've found a few sites for shipping through that I have successfully sent some snakes to people with so far.
I know it's been a month, but do you still have any of your captive bred dekay's brown snakes that you're willing to give away? If so, is there anyway that I can contact you to ask some questions about it?

Do you still have some of these? They are next to impossible to find in the reptile shops. I am new to this forum and I’m not sure totally how to message you here. Dekay’s Brown snakes are one of my favorite. Once while working outside, I fell and broke my wrist in seven places and while I was waiting to get a ride to the hospital, I saw and caught one of these little guys and fell in love. It relaxed me completely and helped take my mind off the pain during my hour wait. I would love to get some.

Re: Looking for captive bred DeKay’s brown snakes!

Hello David! I've been looking for captive bred Dekay's snakes for done months now. I know there seems to be a lot of interest in them on this thread, but was wondering if you still have any? I'd really like to get a breeding pair of them. I've had an exxo terra enclosure set up for a pair of them for some time now. Would it be alright to contact you or have you contact me?

Sorry I do not have anymore. I had only bred them this year for the guy who started this post and then he was no where when I had them.

Hahaha. They were great beginner snakes for me but I've moved on to bigger and better(in my opinion) snakes and other reptiles/amphibians. After about 3 years of digging up 50 earthworms every other day I got a little tired of that. It's so much easier having a snake I can thaw a mouse/rat for.

Re: Looking for captive bred DeKay’s brown snakes!

You’ve got another interested party for DeKay’s snakes! I’m actually looking to see what natural variations there are, would you mind sending me a few pics of the larger snakes on your group? Also have you ever had issues with internal parasites in the wild caught pair, and if so, how did you deworm them?

Also when it comes to tiny worms, it’s fairly simple to breed red wigglers/other worms, I’m not sure about slugs though (mainly how to prevent escape). I’m trying to breed snails for mine actually, a local plant nursery has a ton of them wandering around.
