Re: Advice on Apollo (his viv, feeding, etc.)

See that wasn't so hard Andy

Soooo could I go with a 10 tank or would a tub still be better with him being off eating? Here I figured he'd be happier with more room. Oh well, I can save that tank for someone else. What would you suggest about stabilizing the temps? Like Mink said there's the lamp idea. Would I need to do anything about insulating the tank/tub?

The weight is correct for him, I got it right when he came to me, as is his length. While he was chilling next to the glass I took my tape measurer I use for sewing to get is length. I thought he seemed a little ... big. I did get tail pics while he was roaming. Not sure if they will work but I'll post them in a bit.

Re: Advice on Apollo (his viv, feeding, etc.)

Ok tail pics. Maybe one of them will help. If not, well cute little belly anyway.

Hmmm wonder if I can borrow a drill from someone.

As for probing to find out sex for certain, I'll wait until he's settled in a little better. Either place I can go is a bit of a drive. I'm not breeding so it's not that big of a deal.

Re: Advice on Apollo (his viv, feeding, etc.)

Those are not ideal pics to be judging the gender by but that tail looks very male-like. A female's tail is very short and stubby with a very abrupt taper, while a male's is longer and thinner with a more gradual taper. Pictured below is a young female's tail from a few angles. Quite a contrast when compared to yours.

Tubs would work better to stabilize the temps unless you are going to be modifying the tank in some way. Whether you need a light to help with ambient temps is something you have to judge/figure out yourself. Are you able to move the cage up higher? Are your room temps in your house abnormally cool? It may be easier to use a 10 gallon with a small wattage red heat bulb in the middle to increase overall ambient temps working in conjunction with the heat pad.

Re: Advice on Apollo (his viv, feeding, etc.)

Another picture, this time of an adult female after laying a second clutch of the year a few years ago. A few of her eggs were covered up, but you get the idea. In this picture it's pretty clear where the vent is, so look how stubby the tail is. For size reference...this girl was 296 grams after dumping the eggs.

An overhead of an adult male @86 grams. If you were to draw a straight line from the edge of the post-it on the outside of the bin to the snake, that's where his vent would be located. It's practically twice as long.

And another pic just for fun.

Re: Advice on Apollo (his viv, feeding, etc.)

hehe towel noms. I like that.

Thank you Andy! Hmmm trying to think of where I could put this 10 gallon, in the mean time I'll put some paper over the front of the 20 until I can get the 10 set up. Anyway, yes the temps are .... odd .... in my apartment. During the summer it cooks if I don't keep the air on. I keep the ac on to keep my apartment at 78. The rabbit can't be kept too warm. But we're getting to that weather where I can turn off the ac, open my windows and let some air in. Temp drops to 74ish at night. During the winter, without the heat on it gets cold. I try to keep it at about 70 (save on the bills a little) with the heat on. Without heat it gets cold.

If I use a 10 gallon, which might be easier, can I put some foam core around 3 sides to help insulate? Or is there a better way to go about it.

Can't see Andy's pictures on my work computer, but I pretty sure I have a male, I just got the hatch year confused most likely.

Irony, the one you think may be female I got directly from the breeder as male XD

He is also 2 years old and pretty tiny still.

The 2 I thought were girls make sence because they haven't grown much since I got them. Good thing I had never planned on breeding! Haha!

Re: Advice on Apollo (his viv, feeding, etc.)

I doubt horus is a female lol

But this means I need a female now....DANGIT!

Theother 4 were all rescues, so it's no wonder I was misinformed.

Andy...send me a big female!!!

Exactly why I want more pics my friend.

Magdalen, I'm a rack guy for this species and I have never been an advocate of tanks so I am not the best person to ask about modifying them simply because I have not personally done so, sorry.
