Agreed. The key to a good photo is in the lighting.

It depends. If you can get the light box set up perfectly, then you won't need a flash. That said, I usually prefer to use a diffused flash for effect. When done right, it creates a nice illuminating effect without bleaching out the whites.
My go-to lens for reptiles is a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L. If the lighting is properly set up, you can use a fast shutter speed and get a good depth of focus with f11-16.

Like most boas, she is a total buttercup. Out of all of the boas in my collection, there is only one specimens that requires a cautious approach, all the others are fairly mellow with the proper approach.

Re: Bolivian Boa constrictor
Thanks NF. I have the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 which is a lovely lens together with the standard 100mm EF macro so will have a play possibly tomorrow but more likely Friday as my little boy will be in nursery then so much easier to fiddle with stuff like this!!

This is another male from my Bolivian silverback group. CB14 Barry Miller lineage, and full of spunk.

Re: Bolivian Boa constrictor
And yet another member of my Bolivian boa group. This is a CB13 female, also Barry Miller lineage. She should be ready to go next year.
Everybody always flocks to the Surinamese boas, but I cannot get enough of these Bolivian silverbacks!

Re: Bolivian Boa constrictor
Stunningly beautify snakes NF but I cannot see for the life of me why they are called silver backs
Your whole boa collection is to die for.
I cannot recall, do you have any Peruvian Bc's?

Thank you, Danny! I do have a single male Peruvian boa, but I don't really have a good picture of him yet. Working on it...

Haha Poor little guy. I really love the hissing photos. I've been waiting for a hissy snake to come my way, but alas, 8 snakes in and no hissers. I don't think I've ever been hissed at, the most I get are some half-hearted huffs. Not sure how the next two will be.
