I completely agree with Mikoh, rehoming the cat is unfair since the cat has adjusted to your home and living with you. It would be very stressful to the cat if you were to give it away. You need to put your reptiles somewhere your cat cannot get at them. Part of being a responsible pet owner means making sure that your animals can't harm eachother so you really shouldn't have your reptiles in a room that your cat has free range.

Re: so today is a very very sad day
I wish I could move the racks, I think people would know that was the first thing I was thinking about but I cant, it is not my house and the owners said I may not have them upstairs and there is only here downstairs. I dont think it is fair for her either to be locked away every time I am not here.

Re: so today is a very very sad day
Why not make sure the boxes can't slide out? My rack has holes in it where i can stick a large wooden plug in. So they can't slide out, i don't need it because i have no pets that can reach my rack but i bought it that way.

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. That's a horrible way to lose an animal(s). I hate cats, they kill everything. Hope you feel better soon!

Re: so today is a very very sad day
If you cant kive the snakes to a different part of the house, what about putting them in a closet until you can modify the rack so the cat cant get at them? I agree that the cat shouldnt be punished for being a cat...

Re: so today is a very very sad day
Sorry for your loss, but in all honesty this never should have happened. Racks are easy to get into, and yours should have been secured in some way, especially after you first realized that your cat was targeting your animals. Not the cat's fault, it was your responsibility to make sure it could not get to the reptiles.

Re: so today is a very very sad day
I too am sorry for your loss, but I have to agree with Pirarucu here. It actually makes me angry to read about people who've not taken proper precautions and responsibilities with multi-pet households blaming the pets for an accident and dumping them off.
Your cat is a cat. They are hunters; it's in their nature. You seem to have known that this particular cat was interested in your snakes, yet you didn't find a more secure method of housing them, or move the rack to a more secure location? Now you're mad at your cat and are just going to get rid of it? I know you are sad, but you have to be adult about this and understand that it was not your cat's fault. I had a snake escape when I first started building up a collection- it was a baby Mandarin rat snake (beautiful and expensive), and my cats killed it. I didn't blame my cats or get rid of them. I was devastated and cried, but I knew that it was MY fault, not my cats' and I never once thought of making them suffer for doing only what came naturally.

Re: so today is a very very sad day
I am so sorry for the loss of your reptiles. I am also of the thinking that it is not quite the cat's fault, and that the cat shouldn't be punished for it. If you can find it in yourself to forgive your cat, and accept responsibility for what happened, you will need to keep reptiles in a room that is completely inaccessible to other pets.

Re: so today is a very very sad day
I had my cat trained where it wouldn't even try to go into the same room as the snakes. If he even got near the door he got sprayed with my snakes misting bottle. After about three four times of getting sprayed he quit even going up stairs all together.

Re: so today is a very very sad day
I will also chime in and agree with the above.
I am sorry your snakes are dead but proper enclosures that are lockable stop this 100%. Cats chase small moving things...that's why they chase cat toys. It is to bad you didn't forsee this happening.
Again sorry this happened but don't blame the cat.
This was very preventable

Spray bottle had also worked wonderfully to keep my male cat from getting up on the counters etc, as soon as he sees the bottle he stops what he's doing
