Re: Weird Albino....what do you think???
That's what I was thinking of doing. Im more the resident "lizard lady" in my house, the hubby works with the snakes and he's raising up a few nice female boas right now so we actually were just talking last night of either maybe putting him with his SUPER SUPER SUPER purple female Guyana or with a very pretty probably super salmon het albino female cuz he has no male for either. I think both combinations would throw some really neat and interesting offspring, only time will tell!!
Yes, he actually changes color A LOT. Sometimes he literally looks like a snow with almost no orange at all and others he looks like a sunglow. The pics I posted are actually him RIGHT before going into shed cuz he's blue at the moment.
I will definitely be posting more pics of him though! Happy to have found a good forum finaly, a lot of the are like graveyards anymore

...is what I said. I would never sell something as something without knowing for sure that something IS that kind of something, like any other respectable breeder/hobbyist. Kinda goes without saying I think.
I actualy do have him listed for sale/trade and listed him as exactly what he is, no worries there hun. My ad explains exactly what I did here but any profit or trade value is for an exceptionally nice normal male kahl. BUT like I also said I think i'm just gonna hang onto him, I did buy him as a pet and have become a bit attached. I don't really care about any kind of market value or anything, I'm just curious as to what he could be since I've gotten such strong responses in so many different directions. So no more mentions about selling or profits or anything like that please, just wanna hear peoples opinions on what they think he could (or couldn't) be
Thanks!

Okay hun, so what exactly is he?

I would definitely be careful of putting it the guyana just because she has no male currently.
Usually mixing BCC and BCI is frowned upon. Waste of a good BCC.

^this. I'd never mix a BCC. Too good on it's own to need any BCI blood in it.

indeed, could be interesting one thing i would say, is ensure that the genetic line is well documented - i disagree with the naysayers on crossing species, as long as it is done responsibly and honestly, and with care to select buyers of the offspring based on their integrity rather than the price they are prepared to pay
please do post pics, love boa's myself, cant wait to have the opportunity to start a collection of rare pure localities and crosses/morphs to go along with my current hypo hogg and rainbow

How will you know if they are rare PURE localities since you're all for crosses? How do you know someone isn't lying about it? All it takes is ONE person to ruin everything by faking a cross for a pure.

beautiful looking snake whatever his genetics - doe he change color much? would love to see some other shade if he does, keep the pics coming

I hate everything about this.
If she doesn't know the genetics of this male and she breeds it a) how will she know what to pair it with to get the best litter and b) how is she going to be able to properly identify offspring?,
Mixing and matching is the reason that finding a good PURE animal is so hard because there are unscrupulous breedings by people who have no idea what they're doing and the ones who do mix Bcc and Bci are intentionally wasting genes and muddying up lines

Re: Weird Albino....what do you think???
Whoa whoa whoa, okay, lets simmer down everyone.....
I apologize for sparking such an argument, I just wanted some opinions on my boa. Geesh!
I think this is a good time to stop the discussion about "crossing" bci and bcc, this is a topic that everyone is entitled to their own opinion on and no one person is completely right or completely wrong. Boas are boas so why is it SUCH an issue to cross the locals occasionally? That'd be like saying it's wrong to mix a Doberman with a shepard. But at the same time I respect that many people prefer pure localities for their own specific types of beauty and its worrisome that any crosses in the mix will "muddy" up bloodlines.
Both are completely legitimate arguments but in my opinion they are both right, theyre opinions. Not facts.
SO ANYWAY lets all count to ten, give a big group hug and be happy reptile lovers!!!

Re: Weird Albino....what do you think???
And thankyou formica for all your positive feedback I really enjoyed reading your posts Do you have any nice shots of your hogg and rainbow? Those are two of my FAVORITE species and two I used to keep once upon a time. Would definitely love to ad a few to the "hoard" again!

For me it's because of different care requirements.
BCI and BCC have different requirements so if you mix them how do you know what conditions best suit them? Reptiles can't be compared to mammals. Mammals are warm-blooded and do not depend on a controlled environment so much as ectotherms do.
For example some locales of BCI come from arid desert environments(mexican boas such as hypo sonorans, tarahumara..etc). Others come from tropical environments. If you mix the two how can you know what they need to thrive?

Re: Weird Albino....what do you think???
"sigh" I was just trying to give examples of both sides of this argument.....
I completely agree with you when it comes to crossing animals that come from COMPLETELY different environments. I think what is really being discussed here are locals that are quite close in origin. A Guyana redtain isn't a Guyana because of it's genes. Its a Guyana because of manmade country borders.
If you don't like "crosses" then don't buy them! Locals are FAR from hard to find, I've been keeping and breeding reptiles for 20 years and have never had a hard time finding ANY local of redtail.
Can we PLEASE drop this topic now? I just wanted to have a fun chat with some fellow reptiles lovers and show off a few pics of my albino.....

Re: Weird Albino....what do you think???
Well you asked that question, so I gave you my answer. Besides my posts here have been peaceful, I don't see the reason for the attitude.

Actually the statement I was replying to was very vague, so forgive me if I took it for what it was. You did say boas were boas...

Re: Weird Albino....what do you think???
"sigh" I apologize, it's late here and my 6 month old has decided that "no mom, I am not quite ready to go to bed. But I AM ready to be as cranky as possible for you ".
You have been peaceful and I do appreciate it, I guess I was more having a 'tude with a lot of the other more...hostile sounding posts. I just hate when a thread talking about one thing somehow turn into an entirely different topic, usually involving an argument, and the original purpose of the thread is lost amongst the mire of vague indirect insults and a hootin and a hollerin..
So hows about this: Can I ask you what you think of my albino?

Re: Weird Albino....what do you think???
Seems my question has been ignored so I'll ask again..... What exactly is your boa?
