I think that is the common misconception. Basically, the smaller the first number the more wide-angle the lens is, zoomed all the way out. I wouldnt worry about it that much lol, The 18-55 will get the job done and you can get close shots, you may need to back up a little in some cases.

It isnt exactly correct, but just go by the Bold as a general rule

I have no idea what aperture or shutter speed is.

Re: New camera test shots.

I think shutter speed is just that, the speed of the shutter. I THINK slower shutter speeds allow for more exporsure resulting in blurryness allowing for pictures like this

So basically shutter speed is how fast or slow the camera takes a picture?(receives light?)

Exactly.
The aperture is the size of the opening in the lens allowing light in. The smaller the opening, the less light. the bigger, the more light.

Re: New camera test shots.

Poison, those are nice. I've realized two things...1) The Sony is on my short list (I'm getting a new camera for Christmas...I just need to decide on which one)...and 2) I really forgot how incredibly beautiful Tokays are and thinking I need to add one to my collection

Re: New camera test shots.

Glad this got bumped, because I missed these. Very nice shots. I have the hx200 - I've been very satisfied with this camera!
