Post Rabbit bruce lee kicking a snake

So I just saw this video of a mother rabbit kicking the grapes out of a snake and was wondering if anyone could ID the snake because someone told me they would have gone and helped the rabbit. Without knowing if its venomous or not the headline would have been a lot different if they helped.
Heres the link:

Re: Rabbit bruce lee kicking a snake

Looks like a black rat snake. I saw another video of a large rabbit chasing off a much larger snake a few weeks ago. Couldn't tell what species that one was, but it escaped by climbing into a pine tree. Apparently rabbits hate snakes regardless of whether they're protecting young or just encounter one that crosses their path. As for helping the snake, I'd let nature take its course.

OMG, that rabbit means serious business.I almost feel sorry for the snake. I always assumed rabbits left their babies to fend for themselves.

Nope, they return to their nests every night, and will come when their babies are in distress. If a predator comes by the nest, they'll defend it or try luring the predator away. The babies are just safer hidden away by themselves.

How do the mothers know if they are in trouble? Do they stay within distance to hear a stress call?

Basically, yes. Sometimes they may venture further, but they generally stay within earshot.
