Re: Baby sidewinder

Love that little gut the little tail button is pretty cute.

From what I've seen on youtube most times when assist feeding hots kevlar gloves are used for safety as well as extreem caution.

Thumbs up Re: Baby sidewinder

Just be extremely careful when dealing with any "hot". Make sure you have not only the cahones, but the appropriate licensing and training. Should a tradgedy occur you may not get a second chance!! Is the risk worth your life. Really. Some reptiles are meant to be pets and study animals and others are meant to be in zoos and controlled research facilities. Stay in peace and not pieces.

Re: Baby sidewinder

My sidewinder believe or not is a real sweetheart haha. Never saw him strike yet and kinda just wana handle him. He does rattle when he's pissed but never strikes. They eat like champs I'll tell ya!!! And again I'm shocked how docile he is but like I said he will rattle when I walk by the tank in the AM. Love waking up to rattling I ditched my alarm clock haha

Please don't . That's a risk that dose not need to be taken! If a venomous keeper gets bit holding a snake with there hands it makes the rest of us look stupid and untrustworthy.
It doesn't really sound like your gunna do that but I just wanna make its clear that it's a really stupid idea and I would hope the other hot keepers on this forum would agree.

Re: Baby sidewinder

I would never really handle him cmon now. It's just tempting because he's so docile. But i agree it's never ever woth taking a chance: forget looking stupid it could be fatal.

Great snake. Love how they don't get to big. Mines a pygmy. Are there sidewinders that aren't pygmys that get really big ?

I have never heard of a "Pygmy sidewinder"... I'm sure there are certain locals that are dwarfed due to habitat restrictions but those usually aren't genetically dwarfed.

Where did you hear about a Pygmy sidewinder? what's the sub species?

Youre not crazy at all! I think most viperids do have really cute faces.

Re: Baby sidewinder

As far as I'm aware, there isn't a "pygmy sidewinder." There are sidewinder subspecies, but they are named by locale. There's a pygmy rattlesnake (Sistrurus spp.) but that is not a sidewinder.
