Re: IW17 Picture thread

Nice diversified collection. My FWC has never bitten, but I still don't trust her.

Great looking snakes. How crazy is the feeding response with the water python?

Yeah I have never felt like she would but that's how mistakes happen.

I agree. I don't trust any snake not to bite. They're not tame even if we would like to think so. I tail and hook her when I move her around for cleaning but I'll snap a quick picture from time to time. Once she starts putting some size on her, which is not far off, I'll use sleeves of some kind. Like the cloth welding sleeves with elastic at both ends. Might be overkill but it's worth avoiding the pain.

Insane. She is worse than any off my retics. Shoots out of her tub any time it's opened. Definitely had to be hook trained. She's a doll once she's out though. Once she got brave and tried to eat my hand for all of two seconds before letting go and going back to cruising as if nothing happened. Not a snake I would let just anyone handle, especially as she gets older and puts some size on. But she's always visible and out cruising so she's a great snake to sit and watch.

How big should she get?

6-7 feet. About the same build as a carpet python. They have a reputation for being pissy and unpredictable. But she really hasn't show that so far. I'm hoping her attitude stays how it is. But either way liasis are a great species to have.

At the hamburg show I saw an olive python that was absolutely huge. I had no clue they got that big. For whatever reason I also thought that water pythons got really big.

Re: IW17 Picture thread

No olives get much bigger. Females can get huge. Water pythons are 4-6 for males, 5-7 for females.

First awesome collection.

Second this ^^ is a Aussie thing. lol
I have heard of Srubs, White Lipped, Water, and Olive pythons all doing this. It kind of like your reflexes acting faster than your mind. They react before their mind can tell them there no danger. Even when holding them it more of a reaction than a thought.

Re: IW17 Picture thread

Funny I've seen several videos of scrubs and olives doing this as well. Cruising around then without warning, the chewing starts lol. It really must be an aussie thing.

Ok, so, I'm not familiar with all the shortened snake names. But what kind if snake is it you're handling with gloves?
