She Needs a Name!
An update on my new MBK!
When I finally got her from fedex, I put her in her tank for the day. I know I shouldn't have bothered her for at least 2 days, but I lapsed into being an over excited 5 year old on Christmas morning! (She was a Christmas gift to myself lol). So, I handled her a bit that night. ...oh boy was I pooped and peed on lol. And ig she had a rattle I'd swear she was a diamond back!
I handed her for about 3-5 minutes. Just enough to let her smell me and let her know I wasn't going to eat her lol. I did the same the following day. But I did it before and after work. She starred out really skittish in her tank. Darting into her hides if I even looked at her!
Now it's only day 3 and as I type this with one thumb on my mobile, she is totally chillaxed in my other hand after a bit of exploring my hands, arms, lap, dog, and a cat (the latter 2 having no idea what to make of her lol). She also settles down a bit for photos, soooo, here she is!
Aslo looking for some good feminine names so suggestions are much loved!

Re: She Needs a Name!
I wish I was better at pics.....
Anyway! Please notice the white heart on her chin!
And while I'm at it, I have a question.
How many people take their snakes out in public? What are peoples general reactions? Where do you take them?
I ask because I love taking all of my animals out at times for educational things as well as to ensure they stay people friendly. I would like to include my black beauty by next summer when it's warmer and she's bigger/more chill. I'm a very hands on kind of person so she will be getting a LOT of handling till then. =)

Re: She Needs a Name!
Looks like you two are getting comfortable with each other Mink. I try not to handle new additions until they've eaten at least twice but sometimes temptation gets the best of us all . I've never taken any of my snakes in public. They're not really sociable animals so I think it would just cause them unnecessary stress. I hope you come up with a really good name for her. I'll let you know if I think of anything ; ).

Re: She Needs a Name!
Thanks Ziggy! I'll be feeding her this monday or tuesday. I was thinking of starting her off in a separate container so I'm not feeding her in her enclosure, but not sure if I should at least get her eating before trying that.

Re: She Needs a Name!
There's no need to feed in a separate enclosure, it just adds unnecessary stress to the snakes and increases your chances of a regurge or getting bitten. Some people say if you feed in the enclosure that they think they'll get food every time you open the enclosure, but by that logic, if you feed them outside the enclosure then they'll think they're getting fed whenever you take them out.

Re: She Needs a Name!
I agree with Snoopy. Save yourself and your snake some stress and feed her in her enclosure. Kings can have very strong feeding responses and you don't want to try moving them when they're in feed mode. That's just asking to get tagged .Their enclosures are also where they'll feel most secure. I started out feeding in a separate bin at first too but after about a month of having my first snake, and listening to others on this forum, I realized there was no reason to feed outside their enclosures.

Re: She Needs a Name!
True I suppose. And if I keep her handling regular she won't think that every time I open up she's feeding, just when she smells the mouse. Right?
What about the mess though? I read that it can soil clean bedding super fast....

Unless the mouse explodes there's not much of a mess at all .

Re: She Needs a Name!
Yin? As in the dark side of the "yin-yang"? It would fit as the tiny white heart would represent the blotch of white. It would be especially applicable if the snake was a female, as in Chinese culture the yin was used to represent females, while the yang was used with males. Just my input; cute fella' you got there!

Re: She Needs a Name!
I was thinking of that too! She is female so it would be fitting, and I thought that later I might get a lucistic ratsnake and name him yang lol

Re: She Needs a Name!
You could call her Cleo after Cleopatra the Egyptian queen. Athena is another good name- Athena, the goddess of wisdom and military victory, and also the patron of the city of Athens, was Hercules' half-sister. Her parents were Zeus and Metis, a nymph.
I'm too predictable, all my pets are names after Gods, warriors, kings and queens. My cat's name is Isis.
I really like Yin too. It will play well when you add the Yang. And it rhymes with Zen, my son's middle name .

Re: She Needs a Name!
Hehe, I love all the god and goddesses of mythos as well. Trying to stay away from the 'common' ones though.

Re: She Needs a Name!
Nyx, the Goddess of Night? Or Erebus, the God of Darkness (he's male, though.) Nut, Egyptian Goddess of Stars and Skies, or Khonsu, the Egyptian God of the Moon (again, male). Artemis, although a tad common, is the Goddess of the Moon. The Norse Goddess Nòtt, who ruled over the night. Those are just a few I found, there's tons more...

Beautiful little snake. She looks like a Sheba to me.
