i imagine they wont use anything much over 8 inches off the ground; but it all depends on your furniture/decorations/heat. if you are using bulbs you may need them a certain distance away to get your temps: hence, more height. I would make it at a minimum 1.5 body lengths taller than your substrate, or the tallest decoration/stack touching the wall.
