Need rat help NOW
Was just holding my two adult male rats, and when I was done I went and took out one of my babies. I noticed on my white rex that she is LOADED with tiny brown bugs, which I am suspecting to be mites. Checked my other two, both also have them. My males don't seem to have any. Is there any way to get rid of them?! I don't want my babies to be harmed by this.

Re: Need rat help NOW
Are you sure they're not fleas? (Assuming "white rex" is a rat.)

Re: Need rat help NOW
Yeah, I'm a dog groomer so I've seen plenty of fleas, definitely not fleas. And they look different than mites on snakes, and all my snakes are mite free right now.

I found this:
Rat Tails - An Itchy Rat is an Itchy Nat
I can't say how well it works though.

Re: Need rat help NOW
Well that looks like the same exact thing they have, I will probably take them to the vet though since they are really young

Yeah, vet's probably a better option if they're young. I don't think Ivermectin is very safe for young animals.

Re: Need rat help NOW
It's rodent mites.
No idea how to get rid of them. Maybe flea powder?
I have no idea how well it affects mammals but you can look into pest stripes stuff like vapona. Like I said I HAVE NO IDEA how it affects mammals (not safe for herps) so you'd have to look into it.
Personally, I'd nix the poop outta them.

Thanks Buddy!
So, instead of 2 products I stick with Nix. Spray everything.

Re: Need rat help NOW
Throw them in your freezer. Rodent mites only feed on rodents, eliminate the ability for them to reproduce by tossing the rodents. All of them.
BTW, they bite humans and it's itchy as all hell.
