Now would be a good time to set up a nice enclosure for him and double and triple check your temperatures in there. Judging by how short that jungle lasted, it is very likely that it could have been a husbandry-related issue, so please check temps.

Sorry for your loss, best of luck with the Irian X Coastal.

My friend had came out that night she died and said that my set up was perfect and he couldnt fault it. He has 10 or more yrs dealing with reptiles and he checked her body out and found there was blood in her lungs, not sure if heat would cause that?? But he did advise me that ceramic are not really the best for that type and it would do untill I got a new bulb or heat source. My viv is 4x4x2 and wanted to know if anyone has that setup size and what they use or what would be better than the ceramic?

( Im not being cheeky or anything, and take any comments to improve things)

I'm sure this was very well meaning but as others have mentioned, due to the speed in which he lost the carpet it is likely it was NOT husbandry related and was due to a preexisting issue.

I do however agree that good practice is to check and double check.

All the best Simon! I'm sure you'll do great, you have the right attitude to be a great keeper!

I use ceramics for all 7 snakes, never had an issue with them at all. IF they are set up properly and well guarded then the pose no risk to the snakes at all.

Mine is 4ft height x 4ft length x 2ft depth and had a 150w ceramic but didnt find that it was heating the whole viv, got a 150w basking bulb (non ceramic) and it seems to be putting out more heat, I do have a 250w ceramic on the way that i ordered ages ago, so will try that out aswell, lol

Get a radiant heat panel and a thermostat. The heat panels last a long time, and don't get hot enough to burn the snake although they put out plenty of heat to heat the enclosure.

Is that the same as a reptile radiator?

We use different brands over here in the US, but I looked up the reptile radiator and its essentially the same idea. They are made to be mounted inside. They do a great job of providing a safe basking heat and bring up ambient temps and are really efficient. I know a lot of people that use them for large wood or plastic enclosures. They are usually that first thing that gets recommended by breeders and people who've tried everything over the years. Just make sure you look into reviews on that brand before you buy since we use pro-products or reptile basics panels most often in the states.
