Re: Accos custom made tank!
It looks very nice. May I ask a couple questions??
What type of wood?
Is that a screen top?
Is there a UTH?
Also. Man I know you put a lot of time into it but it looks a bit small for that boa.
Good work. I love the DIY vivs on here.

Wood-teak(i mist it everyday)
no, its not a screen top, but there is holes all around the tank for ventilation(also a foot by foot screen on the top for a light)
What is UTH?

Re: Accos custom made tank!
Uth is under tank heater.
Teak is awsome and i would trim a piece of something non flamable around the light to keep the moisture in. Holes in the top of a viv allow moisture to escape big time. If you live where I do and ambient humidity is around 20% in the winter this is a big deal. I would say just use tinfoil but thats way to nice for that.

no, he doesnt have an UTH, and we are planning on drilling holes in the top soon! the humidity in my room that they are in is always around 50%, and its always 85degrees! but i mist his tank every day, so its the right humidity. i check it regularly.

Re: Accos custom made tank!
Its a really nice tank but I do agree that it is to small for him, I know you put a lot of work into but you should look into getting something bigger for him.

Re: Accos custom made tank!
The thing is, if you put two hides in that enclosure, which every snake should have, there really isn't a heck of a lot of room for that snake to move around in. I would also look into getting a UTH for it, in case your heating system in your house fails. I truly hope you aren't taking this as a scolding, because it's not, we're just trying to help you in making sure your snake is secure in its new home=)

Re: Accos custom made tank!
Not even just with the hides but your snake can't even stretch out unless it props itself up on a wall. Personally I just think it is really cramped and even an extra foot (6 feet long) would do wonders.

It's a good looking tank, and you did great! However...i do agree it looks really small for *that* snake. Are you going to put hides in?

Don't drill holes in the top. Again it lets humidity escape. Sides or back but not the top. A good rule of thumb for viv size vrs snake size is the length plus the width should be equal to or larger than your snake. So a 4x2x1 viv is ok for up to 6ft long snake. Also boas only need a foot of headroom. I would build another longer/less tall viv for your boa and fill that one witha nice carpet python!!

Re: Accos custom made tank!
Yeah.. that cage is awesome looking, but you should put your ball python in it and make that guy a cage that is at least 2 feet longer and maybe a bit wider (hard to tell from here), i know the general consensus is that a 4x2 is good for up to 6 feet, but i feel that the cage should be at least as long as the snake is from corner to corner, so it can "stretch out" fully if it really wanted, especially with hides in there.
I've spent a long time building things before, and I know its the last thing you want to hear, but that thing is definitely too small for him.

Re: Accos custom made tank!
building a giant tank for a snake is harder than it looks... easier said than done, also, a 16 year old girl buying the tools and material for it, is sort of difficult alone. then to build it.. but ill try my best, but thanks though :/

Re: Accos custom made tank!
The cage is great, really you did an awesome job! And I personally know how hard it is to build a tank, I build mine from scratch and so have many others here. We aren't trying to upset you its just that that type of snake needs a bigger enclosure to ensure is health.

Honestly, the tank looks awesome, but its more our concern for the health of the snake, how big is he?
