right type of questions?

Whats the right type of questions to ask someone that wants to buy your snake? I don't want my tree boa to go to just anyone, I want to make sure he is going to a good home that understands him and can work with him without him getting hurt. Thanks in advance!

Re: right type of questions?

I'd be looking to see if they knew the basics about the particular species they were interested in, like humidity requirements and if they had the proper enclosure already set up.I would also ask what experience they have with snakes, and what animals they currently keep, just to give me an idea on what they are currently dealing with.

Re: right type of questions?

Good questions to ask the new potential owner...

Age
Reason for interest/wanting to buy your snake.
- do they want to breed him? will he be a pet?
What experience/knowledge do you have about the species?
What experience do you have with snakes?
Do you have other snakes / what snakes have you previously kept? (this will give you a better idea of how well they might be able to take care of him)
What caging/needs do you have for him?
Are you aware that this snake is not "tame" and possibly cage defensive? Do you have previous experience with defensive snakes?

Anyone who's truly interested in your snake and actually willing to take care of it properly should be happy to answer all your questions. Only give your snake away to someone who you feel comfortable with & who you feel will be able to take good care of it for you! Good luck!

Re: right type of questions?

Thanks guys! ZARADOZIA Messaged me asking about him! I hope she takes him I feel more comfortable with her taking him more than this lady I'm talking to about him. She says she is expereinced with aggressive large and even hot snakes. She said he first snake at 15? was a hot. but I'm still weary about her. Like I told Zaradozia, I don't think I should trust her because she is from craigslist and especially because of the guy that gave him to me.
I hope T-rex is doing okay :/

Re: right type of questions?

What does the guy that gave Vlad to you have to do with this? The first clue for me is when people say is it mean? Or I like " does it bite" . I don't even bother to reply to those emails. Nor do I reply to people that send a message saying " can I get pics? " cause if that's all they put they have no interest. The ones that I have been comfortable with are the peeps that ask pertinent questions like how big of a set up do they need. What is he currently in. How often is he fed and can he be held.

Because he came from Craigslist as well. Thats why I was saying I'm not sure if I should trust this lady but she seems like she knows her stuff.
Especially if her first snake was a hot. And she currently has a copperhead I believe and some red tails and a tokay gecko. And I also like the fact that she has experience with aggressive snakes as well as large snakes.

Re: right type of questions?

Just because someone has a hot don't mean squat. I could go on faunaclassifieds and buy a hot and have it in a week. All I would need to do is dump it in a tank and drop food in occasionally and pour water into the dish...... not saying she is but people do that to cornsnake and python all the time. Also where I am from it is nothing to catch a copperhead or a cottonmouth. Again not saying she is and not trying to stress you but just giving you a friendly reminder.

Re: right type of questions?

i usually guage the person by the things they ask via e mail.

face to face meetings, i get chatting about carpet pythons and guage how much they understand what i'm talking about

i also let them see all my carpets tanks and watch how they react and what comments they make re carpets

then the big question.....

do you have the money

cheers shaun

Re: right type of questions?

Hmmmm hard call....... I am going to say I don't trust her because " I have had cottonmouths and copperheads ....... some are breeding them ( not me) I want one" That whole line sounds sketchy to me. Also she talk about how cool her Tokay are when you aggravate them. Why would you intentionally aggravate your pet? Idk I just don't trust easily.

Re: right type of questions?

Ditto. I'd have to feel 100% comfortable with a person if I'm going to trust them with an animal I'm giving them. If you feel ANY hesitation, listen to your gut and look elsewhere.

Thanks girl. This helps a lot. I think i'm going to meet with her first and see how things go. If I get a bad feeling I'm not going to go through with it.

Re: right type of questions?

umm not to be mean

BUT..

Did you have that woman's permission to post her full name and email on an internet forum? That's an invasion of someone's privacy. How would you like it if someone pasted your name, email, and conversation on the net?

Re: right type of questions?

Are you getting a gecko or a snake? That habitat is for lizards, snakes don't need UV lights they just drain out the humidity.
Another thing is if you're getting a dum or another large snake you're gonna need a much bigger enclosure than a 40 breeder. Unless of course it's not an adult.
