I think the worse thing can be a feeling of uselessness (not able to earn money for the household and relying on others for help) but the best way around this i have found is to help others when ever possible.
We have recently decided to take on animals that need to be rehomed due to others not being able to care for them anymore - time is something i have plenty of!!! So far we have taken in a cat and an adult corn snake. We may concentrate on rehoming reptiles more than more cats tho as they are easier to "contain"!!
