hotmail giveing out free space ?

Hey everyone, well I just went into my hotmail account, which has been at its 2.0 MB maxed out for over a year. Today I opened it up and it said I was only using 1% of the space first I thought it had deleted all my e-mails, but then I looked again and I now have 250MB of space, I had 2 other people check there accounts and one of the other 2 had the same thing, they also got 250MB of space for no reason. Just wondering if this has happened too anyone else. I'm sure it’s a glitch but its the first one that’s ever worked out for me.

Actually, from what I've heard, hotmail is in the process of upgrading all free accounts to 250 MB. That's why my account was inaccessible the other day since they were making the changes. It's all done for me now which is nice....but I don't think I'm gonna use 250 mb worth of space.

They are upgrading every account to 250MB, due to competition from Gmail, which offers 1GB. There are also lots of smaller companies that are offering up to 5GB of free space.

They're doing it based on the age of accounts. So people with older accounts are getting upgraded ahead of newer accounts.

Free users will be upgraded to 250, while paid users will upgrade to 2gb.

Cool, wierd though, I've had my hotmail account for 8-10 years. Not sure if that is considered a long time..

Still at 2 mb....

I think Yahoo offers 100 meg now, so that was more competition for Hotmail as well.

(still at 2 meg, and I've had my account for 7 years)
