Pastel x Orange Ghost

I did this cross back in the 2000-2001 breeding season. Pictured is my Pastel male breeding my Orange Ghost female on December 23 2000.

<img src="http://coreywoods.com/PastelxGhost/Pastel%20X%20Orange%20Ghost%20Tail%20Pic%202181.JP G">

Out of the cross I produced 1.1 Pastels het Orange Ghost as well as 3.0 Het Ghosts. Pictured below is the female Pastel het Orange Ghost.

<img src="http://coreywoods.com/PastelxGhost/Pastel%20female%20het%20Ghost%204602.jpg">

The Pastels are now large enough to breed this year. I'll breed the Pastel het Ghost back to his Orange Ghost mother as well as to his Pastel het Ghost sister. The Orange Ghost female did not produce a clutch of eggs last year and she is getting huge!

Enjoy the pics,
Corey

Thanks guys! The Orange Ghost is NERD Bloodline which IMHO is one of the best looking ghosts out there. It will be exciting to see what this year brings.

breeding

Nice Pics Corey,You said that the pastels het orange ghosts r breedable this year,wouldnt the female be a little small to breed?
Only being 1 year and half old.Would she be mature enough to breed?

????

He's breeding the male SON back to the MOTHER. If the mother was old enough to produce in 2000-2001, the she'd most certainly be old enough to produce this year!! And the sibling will be TWO years old when she has eggs so she'll be old enough.

What Jeff has said is true. Most females take atleast 3 years to be breedable size, however, some will breed at 2 years of age. It is all based around the weight of the female. I kept back 4 female pastels from last year and their weights are as follows 1500g's, 1450g's, 1300g's (Pastel het Ghost) and 1100g's. Since the females should eat up until Feb 2003 that still gives me lots of time to get them over the 1500g mark. I will use 2 female pastels to try and produce super pastels (and super pastel ghosts...etc), 1 female pastel to hopefully breed to my pied and another female pastel will be put with my Red Axanthic.

Clownfishie,

Thanks!

I've been working on a website for about a year now.......I gotta get that thing done sometime this decade. I've got 49 adult female balls cooling to breed this comming season.

Geeze Corey, how do u keep track of whos who! lol

About that pied x pastel breeding. Would that eventually make a pastel pied? I assume so right?

Now that would be one awsome animal!

Has that ever been done before?

Grant,

I'm good at record keeping (for snakes anyways........lol). Everyone has a record card beside their rubbermaid/cage. One card has feeding info and another has breeding info.

A pastel x recessive gene will produce Pastels het for that recessive gene.

Since I already have a pair of Pastels het for Orange Ghost this is what they have the potential to produce when bred together:

Super Pastel Ghosts
Super Pastels (pos het ghost)
Pastel Ghosts
Pastels (pos het ghost)
Orange Ghosts
Possible Het ghosts

This same model can be used for any recessive gene.....just replace the ghost gene with whatever you want (pieds, albinos, axanthics.....etc).

Corey
P.S. The only pastels het for anything that I know of is ghosts. But I'm sure their are others out there I don't know about.
