lost king snake

hey, i know im usually not around in this section of the forums, but i need some help. my neighbor's california kingsnake has gotten out, and we've been looking ALL over for it. at this point, we think it has gotten outside somehow, and probably died.

but i was wondering what would be the best places to look for it? its about 15inches in length, and we've looked everywhere, and we've been looking for a few days now. if anyone knows where it is likely to go, please let me know.

Don't be so sure it got outside. When my cal was that size it escaped the first day I got it and once after that. Look everywhere. The place you think it won't be is where you find it. I found mine the first time under the rubbermaid I was keeping a baby burm in. The second time he was in the back of my closet in one of my roller blades. Don't give up on finding it.

if he's only 15" I would say that he's NOT outside for sure

look in all the tiny places he could go, imagine the snake cruising along looking for a hide

we did, we looked EVERYWHERE. we emptied out his all of his closets and everything in them. we took apart shelves, desks, and tables. we checked any and all plants he had in his house. he looked through his basement and attic, moving and searching through anything and everything. and all of this is just while i was there, and i know that he continues to look after i leave.

With a snake that size, it could be almost impossible to find. When my corn got out, I turned the place upside down looking for her for a few days but couldn't find her. Then, 9 days after she escaped, I came out of my bathroom around midnight to find her cruising into the living room from my bedroom, probably in search of water (the first thing she did when I put her back in her enclosure was to drink for a very long time). As you know, they can go for a long time without food, so I wouldn't worry about that, and just wait for him to show up when you are least expecting it.

You've got to hate escapes, the trick is too remember he’s capable of moving around, he could be back somewhere you already looked, so you've never searched enough makes them very difficult too find. Good luck, I'm sure he'll turn up.

If you have cracks large enough in your baseboards floors etc chances are she/he is in the walls or floors. I had an emerald tree boa escape on me found her the same day though thank god, but i had a snow corn escape on me and did'nt find her until 2 years later. She escaped into my floor and also had exsclusive rights to the walls to... moral of the story one day 2 years later i was washing dishes and to my surprise we decided to finaly finish the basement and the first section of paneling i pulled down she was there!!! I guess she was living off field mice etc that got into the house... and i may add she was'nt as friendly as the day she left i know it was her because where i live in canada you don't find wild corns. Hope your friend finds her

yeah, we tried that too. we put a frozen pinky on a plate in the center of each room. and they are all still there.

depending where you are at, is it chilly? i found one of my lost guys in the kitchen behind to stove.

Chances are if the snake is still in the house he is not going to eat a pinkie left in the "center" of the room. The snake will stay close to the walls or under something. I would think he would feel way to insecure to venture out to the center of the room.

try putting flour next to the walls to see if he has been moving around. I don't know about king snakes, but my baby corn went to the highest place she could. Happened to be under a model car, at the top of a shelf that was right next to her cage.

Crawl like a snake - figuratively speaking. It will probably follow around the baseboards and not venture into the middle of the room.It will also have a tendency to go downstair - not up. I found my King Nske nine months after I lost him. He was in a partially open tool box in the basement. I don't know what he ate - we have no mice in the house. He might have eaten spiders? The only water is in the sump pump hole which I doubt he could have gotten in and out of. he hadn't grown any but, he was no worse for the wear.

Also when checking along the baseboards, look for areas were carpeting may have pulled up or is loose at the tack strips. I found one of mine, under the carpet, between the tack strip and the wall. It is amazing where they can end up. Don't rule out looking up, (drop ceilings, pipes, particularly around heat sources, like dryers, fridges, hot water tanks).
