Oh ok. Well better it gets proper food, but kinda worse cuz they rats can do some major damage quickly. Hopefully he will see the light before his snakes get hurt or killed.

BUDDY OBVIOUSLY CARES MORE ABOUT HIMSELF & THE THRILL HE RECEIVES FROM FEEDING LIVE THAN HE DOES ABOUT HIS SNAKES. EVERY IDIOT THAT DOES THIS TRIES TO JUSTIFY DOING SO WITH VARIOUS "MICKEY MOUSE TYPE" REASONS. LIVE SHOULD ONLY BE USED AS "FIRST MEALS" FOR NEONATES OR IN THE RARE CASES WHERE IT IS A LIVE OR A STARVE TO DEATH TYPE SCENE & EVEN THEN THE PREY SHOULD BE STUNNED & ALWAYS MONITORED, NEVER UNATTENDED. IF YOU HAVE A SNAKE THAT MUST EAT LIVE TO SURVIVE KNOCK THE TEETH OUT OF THE PREY ANIMAL OR STUN IT AT THE VERY LEAST. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO RISK YOUR SNAKES HEALTH OVER SOME "CHEAP THRILLS" FOR YOURSELF. MY OPINION ANYWAY. MARK I.

Yes some people are stuck in their ways, but it is just a matter of trying in most cases. People don't realize that just because a snake hasn't eaten in a few weeks it is not a big deal. Most people I've talked to about going from live to dead try for a few weeks & than give up & throw in live. Starve the sucker for a few months if required & don't be afraid to warm up the prey properly & spend some time tease feeding etc. I've had snakes that I've broken down & given say a live fuzzy to, to get the snake in food mode & fed them dead adults right after they took the live fuzzy. Sometimes using a small live prey item to trigger a response then tease feeding dead/thawed right after is all it takes. Most people that feel they have to feed live still just haven't bothered trying & go with what is easiest for them, but not nessicarily what is best for their snakes. Mark I.

I agree... you can't say you won't cause pain to one animal but turn around and cause pain to another. Not cool.

One of the best reasons to feed f/t is cost. I've found f/t rats are way cheaper then live ones. Now in the case of when you breed them i find you end up with many at the right size at the same time. they won't stay that size forever, and the only way to keep them that size is freeze them. there's many methods to kill the rats, i find putting a couple rats in a sealable bucket, dropping a couple cubes of dry ice into a cup of water makes pleanty of CO2 gas to put the rats to sleep forever. My observations have been that it's pretty painless for the rats and dry ice is cheap (buck a pound and a couple cubes is no where near a pound). You can get dry ice from companies like Praxair.

I do not condone the rodent dental work either, but I am obviously more concerned about the health of the snake than that of a prey animal. Sad but true, but some people do the "denistry" as I stated because they were stuck with someone elses animal (big boids etc.) that was raised on live & would not switch back. I wouldn't go there myself, but I don't feel bad for the thousands of feeders I go through either, or the Pigs, Cows or Chickens I eat. Its a fact of life that I accept, be as hypocritical as you want, but with life always comes death, such is Life. Another big part of my reasons not to feed live is too prevent the suffering of prey animals. Life sucks for them enough already there is no reason to feed live. You can prevent suffering of the prey & most importantly your snake, NUFF said. Mark I.

Well, no, this isn't really life. Keeping a snake in a cage and dangling a dead rodent in front of its face isn't exactly what nature intended.
BW - As I said, he doesn't care about the 'kill' part of it, he just thinks he has no real reason to change his methods and therefore won't.
lol, Mark, my mice led good lives until they were killed :P
