Blue tough skink

A woman dropped this beautiful boy off at the shop for us to find him a good home as her son has went to university and she doesn't want him. So he's getting the life pampered out of him as he's such a big softie till we find someone who will give him the care and love he deserves. If we don't find the right person for him we'll just keep him in the shop and spoil him rotten

he already looks like he's being spoiled. did she know how old he is? do skinks get very big?

I have always heard really good things about BTSs. It's nice that she decided to let him go instead of neglect him too. =)

We've no idea how old he is lol, she just walked in with him in a box and asked could we get him a good home. He's been really well looked after and a good size. I'll get full body shots of him on Saturday if he's still there, I took these pics when he just woke up he was sleeping on one of the guys shoulder getting stroked

They are amazing Mink, this is around the fourth or fifth adult I've had the pleasure of meeting and they've all been really tame, although this guy takes the biscuit he follows us around the shop and when you lift him he climbs up you and rests his head on your shoulder and falls asleep

I researched them a while back though and I thinknot was their regular feeding requirements that had me loose interest.

As it is I am looking at getting out of crested geckos entirely because I have to mix their food up twice a week, and there have been times I have forgotten ._.

Being honest Mink I don't even know what way these guy's are fed I'm in the shop on Saturdays all I do is clean vivs and put fresh water bowls and talk to the customers, I'm fine giving out advice with snakes but when it comes to lizards I'm pretty useless, Eddie the guy who owns the shop is a fountain of knowledge about most reptiles and spiders so I just give him a shout when someone asks questions about something I don't know about

Yeah, I hear they have a super variety of foods from bugs, to pinkies, boiled eggs, greens, fruits, ect. And should be fed like every other day or so.

This is also what is keeping me from having an Ackie monitor XD

I can see what you mean but then I guess the mate hardly even notices it when he's got so many different reps to feed anyway

Feeding a lizard is much less hassle than I thought it was going to be. I try and have 10-15 minutes interaction with Julius a day anyway so just feed then.

Takes two minutes to grab a few bugs and now he's in a bioactive viv the odd snack goes by him each day anyway.

And they're so different from snakes-its great to be able to observe both.

BTS are really neat. I have two adult Northerns and I quite enjoy them. They're big bluffers and always put on defensive displays when I go to pull them out. They remind me of garters or hognoses. That isn't to say that they can't or won't bite, and they draw blood when they do, but they usually just get the display out of their system and let you scoop them up. I think that the best word to describe them during handling is inquisitive.

They seem to spend most of their time buried but almost always come to the front of their cages to watch me when I'm in the room. At least with mine, they don't really allow handling unless they've come out of hiding to see if you're bringing food.

On food, BTS are prone to obesity and breeders recommend feeding once a week. I feed mine a mixture of preservative-free wet dog food and greens (I spread the mixture into an ice cube tray and thaw when needed). I also give mine vegetables throughout the week, just whatever raw veggies happen to be on the menu for the people in the house.

I'd be surprised if this bluey didn't find a good home quickly.
