I've landed on a a pretty good hoggie setup...

Some of you may recall with not being able to hold temps very effectively with a UTH. I completely changed the set up yesterday and my hoggie seems to love it!

First step was moving the cage right next to an upstairs window letting in some warming natural light. I then screwed a coat hanger to the window frame and clamped a work light with a 100W ceramic heat emitter. Using this method I can easily adjust the height of the emitter. Coupled with the UTH the warm side surface stay around 92 with the cool side in the low to mid 80's. The emitter is about 6 inches from the surface of the screen. My hoggie seems to LOVE the basking heat and her activity has been great. It's nice to finally see her out of burrow and exploring the cage. I also added a maple branch, which she seems to appreciate the cover.

Minkness this may be the answer you were looking for in your earlier post.

My hog seems to be happy now after a long day of hissing at me. I think my next project will be breeding American Toads for feeders. She's been taking scented pinks just fine, but if I can breed toads or frogs then I'd like to make the switch back to an animal that a hog nose loves eating. I'll let yall know how it goes!
