Good beginner Cham species?

I've been toying with getting into Chams but have held back because they seem a bit more fragile than I'm comfortable with. However, I have been thinking about it again recently. Can anyone suggest the best species for a beginner? I'm especially interested in the smaller or pygmy ones but my husband likes the really colorful ones.
