It would be very interesting to see this difference between isolated vs group chameleons quantified; i.e. are there lasting effects of social behavior? Is there a 'forged in hotter fires' theory at play, where chameleons in a group HAD to learn to be more dominant, and had to be quick on the draw in order to catch their food? Maybe those chameleons reared in isolation would display less submission and quicker food prehension if they were kept in a group as subadults or adults as well? Is there TRULY a developmental deficit causing these differences?
