Fixing an old cage... questions.

What can I use to put on the inside of an old cage to keep water from damaging the particle board? The cage already has some water damage, so I don't want it to have any more. I thought about some of that liner that is used for inside of cabinets. I found some at Lowe's that seems waterproof, but it doesn't actually say if it is or not.
