lil summer project need help

Yo guys,
In the summer me and my cousin are going to make a reptile cage so that we can keep any herps we might find and keep for an hour. i was planning on making it glass with wooding sidings so we can examing them while they stay withus for a awile (we always put these little buetuys back just a little break from the bush. Anyone have any ideas on materials and any basic ideas on puttinig it otgther. we have anything from blue tongue skinks to Black rat snake to salamanders so I guess it's got to big water proof so it can hold any amphians with water. what the best kinda duriable glass? how long should it be? Also just wondering which do you think is better a home mad cage for your snake or a bought one?
