A snake is not motivated by these things. Your best bet is to just make the experience as positive as possible. I think 85% of your problem right now is hesitation due to a bad experience on the human end. 15% is the snake being nervous because now YOU are nervous and he has not had a good experience the last few times he has been out. I imagine that if you can get him out of the cage smoothly, quickly, and quietly, let him breath for a few seconds, and then handle him as usual, things will go much more smoothly. Don't handle immediately after feeding, or before feeding when things smell like mice. good luck. keep us posted.
I think all he was trying to say was that like teaching a dog tricks, it takes time and patience.
