How to convey poor husbandry

Hello,

I have not posted here before, mostly as I don't own a bosc, although I have been lurking on this forum for some time. I appreciate all of the information and believe that much of the care discussions translate well to a wide range of monitors.

I recently was asked to look at someones lizards (including a bosc) as they wanted my opinion on their animals and enclosures. Without going into the details, the husbandry is so far off as to be killing the animals in a fairly short time in my opinion. This person clearly loves the animals, but lacks knowledge in everything from environment to nutrition, to identifying issues of concern. I want to provide information but don't want this individual to take offense. Some people are receptive to advice and others not so much, particularly when they have been doing something for years.

I was wondering about buying the Savannah monitor book and gifting it to this individual as a less invasive way of conveying information. I am thinking that if they read it they might then self correct the husbandry issues.

Good idea, not good idea, or other suggestion? I could just leave well alone.
