Hello form Caledon

Hi everyone,

Brand new here. The new, proud parent of a male B.P. (early oct-2012) courtesy of the guys at S&T in Toronto.

His name is Faro (he should show up as my Avatar). Since its an African snake my wife pick "Faro" which is a mythical west African god of sky and earth.

Drove him home on Sunday night and he was happy as a clam right from the get-go! My wife gives off a bizarre amount of heat so he looves her! (can't blame him)

His Home is 20 gallon long tank with a cozy hide on the warm side with an internal temp of 89-91. I screwed a semi-smooth branch to that hide that nearly reaches the screen which I see him hanging out on every night. Screen is covered 75%. He has a ghetto hide on the "cool" side that never gets cooler than 77 with the water on that side. Substrate is light Aspen. He pee-d in the bag on the way home (car was kept warm so I dont think it was temp stress) So my wife took him out, wiped his "bum" and put him around her neck...yeah...they are best friends now.

When we got home he seemed so relaxed and inquisitive we each spent 5 minutes with him and he seem so well tempered we tried to handle him again on Monday with spectacular results!! (She asked me if she could shower with the snake...no dear..really?...no, he is not parrot)

As soon as it's dark in his "home" he is out and about looking around. When he is around my neck he hooks his tail around my necklace and "tours" around looking in ears, on top of my head and up my nose. (Day three...I have never seen a snake like this!!)

Yesterday night I decided to offer him a rat pup and he was on it like a scene from wild kingdom!! (Only three days in...)

When I get some pics of Faro and my wife together I'll put them up.

As an adult he is my first CB snake. As a kid (like many I assume) I grew up knee deep in evey lake, stream, pond, culvert, puddle catching everything that moved. Tamed a few as a teenager but I never imagined a snake like this.

I'm starting to wonder if he's a reincarnated Jack Russell.

My wife agreed to "only one snake"....but...I already started looking for a baby female pied (Nelson told me he would have some in a few months) so any ideas on how to approach that convo?

Glad to be here!
