pole dancing lace monitor

I was feeding my lace monitors a couple of days ago when I noticed the male doing a sideways 'tripod' off one of the climbing trees. It looked more impressive in life than in the photo. Although he seems to be holding on with only one hind leg and his tail wasn't wrapped around the trunk, I suspect his tail was propping up against the rockery in the background for him to be able to do this. Still, fairly impressive for an 8kg lizard.

When he realised there was no more food on offer, he simply twisted his trunk and turned around to climb up to the basking area. Equally impressive show of core muscles, especially with a belly full of food.

In other news, the female appears to be gravid.
