Kado died today

Hello everyone

I'm dragging myself through the day today because my wonderful Alexandrine parrot, Kado died this morning. I have had birds all my life, but none of them touched me the way he did. He loved to give and receive kisses, told me what he was thinking through whistles, chortles, chuckles and words, and loved nothing more than fresh walnuts, a drenching shower and a good neck scritch. He loved to learn new tricks and would demonstrate them one after the other if he thought I might have a treat for him

He came to us, already an adult, from an ugly situation of neglect and I had the honour and privilege of caring for him and earning his trust and love for another 7 years. Over the last month, his age began to show in little things. His dawn chorus was a bit quieter, he was more interested in fluffing up and watching the world go by than chewing his toys, and there was just something about him that said he was a bit tired.

I'm already bitterly missing kisses from my Kadobird and I haven't been able to focus or get any work done all day. To other people he may have been 'just' a bird, but to me and my husband he was our little honey. Love you Kado, goodbye my little featherhead...
