This one has taken to hanging out under a couple boards in the backyard. I'd say it is about three feet long, certainly over two, and about as large around as a C battery cell at the fattest.
This is in Berkeley, CA.
I'm worried about my dogs using the back yard with the snake, though I doubt I need to, one of my dogs got suddenly sick yesterday and they can't figure out why. Today my girlfriend was gardening and found the snake right where that dog likes to hang out. The snake has stayed, moving between a few different spots. I only bothered it long enough to take a few photos.
I'm concerned it might be a lost pet since the coloring looks odd (to my very uninformed eyes). If so, I'll put up a flyer and get it home.
If I need not worry about either I'll let it stay and eat the rats around here. It seems quite passive, not aggressive.
