Senior Citizen snake with a BAD attitude
I have recently re-homed a beautiful Mexican (Sororan) Black Kingsnake from a lady that is leaving the country. My problem is this...
The snake is an adult of about 15 years (senior Citizen...lol) which was horrible abused as a 'child'. His owner used to handle him much like a snake wrangler would handle a wild Cobra...(Pls refer to the likes of Steve Irwin). Then the snake was rescued about 7-8 years ago and was treated much better but in very small, almost lightless accommodation. The snake now has a history of being biter...not one that will just bite and let go, but one that will bite and hold...and hold...and hold. I have not yet been bitten but apparently his mouth needs to be forced open to release.
I do not have a problem with non-venomous snakes but I seem to have a phobia about handling this particular snake. He also seems to spend much of his time in the water bowl, considering the previous owner never gave him any water. She said the snake absolutly hated water. Any ideas on rehabilitating this snake? I have put the snake in a 'room' about 6 foot high and 4 foot squared.
