Securing Rubbermaid lids... How?

I'd like some ideas to secure Rubbermaid lids. I've heard of people drilling holes through the top lip of the container and the lid itself and securing it with "S" hooks. I was wondering what other methods can be used? The rubbermaid is for a ball python if that matters.
