cricket size? colors?

hey guys, i got my veiled chameleon at a pretty small size, he was pure light green, very small veil and body lengh a half of my index finger, now, a month and a half later he grew a lot.. i got him a 1000 half-size crickets, and he still eats so many of them, a thousand lasts like a month... so im thinking of moving up to maybe adults with the next cricket purchase? im sure hell b able to take em down, but is it gona give any harm to the little guy? he is very healthy, i give him a lot of spraying, butter, silk, wax, meal worms and everything i can to make his nutricion full.
what are the bad sides of giving him full grown crickets? and should i??? also i was at a pj's petsotre the otehr day, and there was a veiled chameleon there and he was smaller then my guy when i got him but he was already showing the outline of the pattern and colors, mine was pure light green. my cham is a male, so it cant be a difference in sex, since i know that males get nices colors. could it be that my chameleons parents werent as nice as the pet store one's ? or something else?
alrite thatnks for help in advance guys, appreciate it.
