maryland spider

(sorry for the terrible pic, i cant get very close to him)

this morning i discovered this spider on my ceiling in my bed room, with legs spread out hes about the size of a cap on a bottle of soda. hes really light brown but looks like his body is a darker brown. i'm not too worried about him, i'd really like for him to come down so i could capture him and let him go outside. but he just wont come down off my ceiling. my fear is that while i'm sleeping is when he will come down and i dont want him hurting me or any of my pets. i would just like to know if hes dangerous or not. thank you
