Years ago, I lived in a house where the strangest thing happened, THREE times!!!!! After a heavy summer/fall rain, I caught a salamander in my driveway/carport. Now, I didn't have a pond within walking distance for me, let alone a tiny salamander. To make matters more interesting, I had NEVER seen salamanders like these! They were not that small, and had glitter-like flecks all over them. Turns out, these were the rare Clouded Salamanders!! (
Aneided ferreus ).
I couldn't believe my findings. I found the first one 10 years ago, and the last one 6 years ago. Well, we moved, but we only moved 3 houses away!! (Don't ask). I had totally forgotten about finding those salamanders. I was leaving last night and my dad was coming in at the same time. I heard him say "watch out" so I stopped to see what he was talking about. He was looking at a baby (this year's) Clouded Salamander!! Man, this is the single greatest find for me and the only thing that could top it would be an ensatina!! Anywho, I snapped a few photos and let the little guy go. Man, this made my week!!
