Arrow disinfectant

Ok i'll make it short. My cousin is a nurse and she says that hydrogen peroxide (forgive me if I've got the wrong one but you know which it is... brown bottle and about $2 at the drug store) is a bad idea to use on any animal including snakes because it doesn't allow new cell growth. Apparently they don't use it anymore on people because of this but you can still buy it. My question is if this stuff is not good to use what should be used? (she recomended a topical cream but then again she isn't a vet and is deathly afraid of snakes.... she won't even let me bring one into the house after shipping) anyway...
