Hmm, then why do our dogs like to pick apples for themselves? Why do dogs eat grass all of the time, if not for the roughage? Dogs do eat veggies and fruits, even in the wild. It is necessary for them, aiding in proper digestion. Rodents need some form of roughage also, in order to digest their meals. I've seen plenty of rats eat corn, peas and beans even when they have other food sources available. There is no problem in adding dog food to their diets either as long as you can read and compare the food value to most commercial rodent foods.
