Thumbs up U.S. Postal Service

There was an article in today's Courier Post (local paper) that the U.S. Postal Service will release a pane of $0.37 stamps depicting 2 amphibians and 3 reptiles. These stamps are the official celebration of National Stamp Collecting Month in October.

The stamps will be digital illustrations by Steve Buchanan. The new stamps will include a Blue Spotted Salamander, the Ornate Chorus Frog, the Reticulated Collared Lizard, the Ornate Box Turtle and the Scarlet King Snake. The article is an Associated Press release by Syd Kronish. There is a short paragraph on each of the reptiles and amphibians listing where it lives and where it can be found.

First day ceremonies will be held at the San Diego Zoo on October 7th. The stamps will be available across the country on October 8th. First day postmarks can be obtained by calling 1-800-stamp-24.

I think this is a real positive for the herp community!
