My husband posted this on facebook in a snake group we are part of. I thought he might get better results here so I copied and pasted......

hi everyone. several weeks back, i came across a copperhead here in south carolina. not at all unusual. but this one was highly mellanistic. it was almost jet black and you could barely make out the pattern if you were close. i have been an avid fan of snakes for 40 years and have never seen this in a copperhead and i was just wondering if anyone else has? i'm assuming this doesn't occur very often.

I saw the same snake and our daughter and dog got to it before we did. She is knowledgeable enough to stop and tell us that it was a snake while holding the pit/boxer mix. Thanks in advance for any info.
