I will always vouch for carpets as well, though, as everyone else has pretty much said, a 40 gal might be cramped for an adult male even, but you would have time to buy a larger, more suitable enclosure if you buy a neonate or even a yearling. ![Smilie](http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif) Best of luck in your hunt.

I agree. A 40 gallon will house a carpet python for about 2-3 years before it starts to get a little cramped.
