But I would like to know why the monitor in the article can live up to 7 years when mine didnt even make it past 1 year...

Luck pure and simple every animal on the planet is unique different conditions affect them in different ways some can hack it for a long time others succumb much quicker, why do disease kill some people but other survive? Down to the luck of the draw fella, my sav was seven when he passed and I kept mine badly...
