On a Mission

Hey everyone, I would like to post this thread to get people to help me for a worthy cause. I am on a mission to have the Reptile/Exotic bylaw in Windsor, Ontario, Canada changed. I have a couple ideas that can be presented to the Windsor city council for amending the old bylaw. I also want to keep it open-ended for others to share ideas on how the bylaw can also be changed.

Here are my proposed ideas so far:
1. Have specific species banned from being kept as pets (ex. constrictors larger than 8-10 feet, crocs, gators, venomous of course, etc)

This will in my opinion make the bylaw stronger, and still keep everyone happy. Most of the time, people are misinformed about how these animals really are, so they automatically assume every single one is bad, which isn't the case.

2. Create a permit system.

Here's how the permits could work if the city of windsor took them into effect:

- Each household with reptiles/exotic species as pets can get a permit to allow them to own said animals
- The permit could have a fee ranging between 30$ to 120$ (depending on what the council thinks is best, yet also listening to the pet owners)
- This permit fee can be a 1-time purchase, or if the city wanted to, they could make it so you had to renew it every 3-5 years
- An extra law regarding permits can be set in place if people are caught owning reptiles WITHOUT a permit (a fine can be given)

The great thing with permits, is people would be very willing to get them to keep reptiles as pets since the hobby is growing by millions every year. I believe with enough support, and time...we can do this!

I would like to also educate as many people as possible to help get this bylaw changed. People NEED to learn about these exotic animals and truly understand how they behave and the care they need every day. It's not hard at all, and the biggest problem is ignorance.

The petition I have opened up for this cause is here - http://www.thepetitionsite.com/945/9...eptile-bylaw/#

*The petition got 36 signatures in under a day! Let's keep this going!*

I plan to present all information gathered and new ideas to change the law, and the signatures from the petition to Windsor city council and the mayor. With enough support I believe we can get them to listen.

The facebook page for this cause can be found at - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Chang...61536667369754

Please sign the petition and 'Like' the page to fight for a better future for reptiles and other exotic animals.

Thank you.

*I apologize if this is in the wrong place.*
