Does size matter for a retic?

So I just bought a cage that is 8x3.5x2.5 for $20. Epic deal. Now, someone said because it's so big, it may make Pajamas start rubbing and make him insecure...Plausible? Load of hooey? I plan on putting 2 flip up hides in there and some silk plants to give it some cover while he's still smaller...but i want to know if i should just divide it off at 6 ft and use the extra 2 ft as storage.
