I've got a little story here that I wanted to share. I may or may not help someone in the future so please keep it in mind.
When I had my pet shop I used to have this little milk snake. Well I had the locking cages which are apparently good for keeping people out but not reptiles in
This little milksnake somehow managed to turn the lock on one side of his cage and then was able to squeeze out the between the door and the side of the cage. I wrote it off as a loss figuring I'd never find him.
Well a couple days later I found him
There was an area next to the floor where the moulding had come loose. It was that commercial vinyl moulding crap that you just roll out and apply like self-adhesive wall border. That milk snake was trapped in the adhesive on the wall. I thought for sure the poor little guy was doomed but I couldn't just leave him there to die, so here's what I did. I mixed up a white vinegar/water solution 1:3. I then proceeded to spray him with it. Vinegar is about the very least of your evils if you ever have to do something like this. To my delight it started working. As I pulled him off the wall I tried to rub the vinegar in to dissolve the glue that remained on him. My thoughts were that the situation was probably pretty stressful and I should do as much as I possibly can during this one horrible thing than having to keep pestering him. He was obviously going to need his recovery time.
When I finally did get him off the wall I was pretty proud of the job I did. He hadn't lost one scale! He still had a lot of adhesive left on him though. I didn't know what to do. I was thinking about what chemicals might be in that adhesive and thinking about the stress he was already under. JYSK There are no reptile vets available within 50 miles or I would have made a call. So knowing what I know of snakes I knew he was going to go into a shed cycle to try and get that stuff off. So I decided the best thing to do would be to put him in a clean tub with a water dish and just keep an eye on him. I had another idea though so I threw my "leaving him alone" idea out the window and I watched for him to go opaque (I think it was like the next day). I then slathered him up with my favorite shed helper/mite killer/RI cure "VetRx" (purchase at any feed store). I did this everyday until he shed. When he shed it all came off and he was back to his normal little angry self. He ate and that was the end of it.
I was so glad I was able to help this little guy. Say what you want about me or my keeping/home improvement habits but strange things happen. It's how you get yourself, or your victim, out of a sticky situation that really counts
