Re: i need advice for my rescued python
thats a nice healthy looking coastal you have there,he has plenty wieght on him so i would not worry too much about him not eating for now.
it may be because he is concentrating on healing himself
honestly i was expecting a thin bedraggled looking snake.what a pleasant surprize it was to see the size of him
i have had hatchling carpets not eat until they were 10 months old and they are now healthy eaters who never miss a feed.a snake especially a snake of his size can go for up to a year without food
id give him 2 weeks to settle in and heal a bit more.
i would not handle him and only change his water every 2 or 3 days
if possible i would try fresh killed rats at first, then once he started eating them id move him onto frozen thawed
if you can get hold of a live rat then all you have to do is kill it right before you offer it to your snake
use a pair of feeding tongs to pick the rat up and just give it a few shakes in front of him and he should strike then eat it
let me know how it goes please as the poor guys been through so much
im glad you to him and took him from his previous idiot of an owner
all the best shaun
