You should feed him in his cage because handling after feeding can cause the snake to regurgate it's food and as I'm sure you read above if an Emerald regurgatates it can be the end of your snake.

This is bad because you could lose you snake very easily. Also the temp and humidity probably are not where they need to be for it while it just hangs there on this light.
