choosing a snake

first off, hi to everyone.

I've had an interest in snakes for some time but don't currently own one. I was wondering which are the more common snakes for starters.

I'm looking for something relatively small and easy to maintain. I like the idea of being able to feed garter snakes worms or feeder fish. I was wondering what other snakes would be similar to this.

I apologize if this is the wrong section for this question. I've tried going through the forum looking. But as I'm sure you know this is a very large forum.
