Burmese Pythons

There is a lot of missinformation about Burmese Pythons. True they grow to great lengths and weigh about as much as a human. (As they are the 5th longest growing snake in the world, the first being, of course, the reticulated python). Captive breeding/confinement and slow irregular feeding schedules have resulted in burms not reaching their full capacity for size. As a general rule, female Burmese pythons are longer and heavier than males, and the recorded length for a female is 26 something feet (Her name is 'Baby' currently loaned to the Serpent Safari Reptarium.) Itis rumored that these pythons grow throughout their lives. Definately a thought worth considering when purchasing a cute, young burmese. Adult burmese are often euthenized due to their size when mature, despite the fact they generally have quite charming personalities and easy going despositions. When considering purchasing a burmese python think not of how large the animal will get... but of how many adult animals await homes. Of all the large snakes to own, the burmese is the best choice with its inquistive nature, easy-going temperment, and scaled-down size (no pun intended). If anyone is thinking of owning a burmese I encourage them to think of adopting an adult snake needing a home. Questions/comments welcome at: SambasReptileRescue@Hotmail.Com
